SILVER TONGUE

This new Australian work is a queer musical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s coming-of-age novel Treasure Island. This gender-bending retelling of a much-loved story challenges the male-centric narrative of heroes and happy endings. It empowers the voices of marginalised communities featuring a non-binary Jim Hawkins and a female Long John Silver discovering their place in the world, and their sense of family and community. Silver Tongue is currently in development, with workshops at Hayes Theatre Co. and Antipodes Theatre Co. It has been selected as a top 5 finalist for the APRA 2023 and 2024 Professional Development Awards in Music Theatre.

“You hear Alec’s songs once and they stick in your head for weeks. Smart, funny, melodically inventive and yet you feel like you've always known them. Their arrangements are incredible.”
